Rating and Review Process for Casino de Montréal

One of the most important aspects of our rating and review process for Casino de Montréal – or any casino, for that matter – is that we leave no stone unturned. In this Casino de Montréal guide, you’ll find out every detail you might want to know if you’re considering visiting the venue.

The way we’re able to achieve this is by visiting the casino for hands-on experience. We’ve been there, played the games, and asked on-site staff some important questions about how things are run. The result is a comprehensive guide to Casino de Montréal.

What we looked at

The first thing we did to review Casino de Montréal was to find out the cold facts. The majority of the time, people need to know objective data like when the Casino de Montréal is open, what games they have, what the table limits are, and so on.

But that’s not all. We also factor in aspects which can’t be quantified. For example, how were we treated by the staff? Are the house rules reasonable or unnecessary? And what was the general atmosphere like at the time we reviewed Casino de Montréal?

Putting both of these together creates a complete and conclusive Casino de Montréal review.

Local progressive jackpots

Casino de Montréal has one recurrent progressive jackpot which is the Powerbuck$ jackpot, which was worth seven figures at the time of our visit. You can play it on any of their Powerbuck$ slot machines at Casino de Montréal, all of which are provided by IGT.

Casino Games – 4/5

There is an excellent selection of casino table games at Casino de Montréal. Before attending the casino, we’d heard rumors of outrageously high table minimums. It is true that blackjack minimum bets are this high at $25 per bet. And this is the case for several game types. But, thankfully, not all of them.

We found plenty of action from the $2 mark on roulette games such as Interactive Roulette, which is low for such a prestigious venue. It’s an accessible alternative if the other tables are too steep.

With over 115 tables you essentially have all the choice you need, although we marked Casino de Montréal down ever so slightly because we didn’t spot any craps tables. However, staff told us they did used to have them, so maybe they’ll return at some point.

Betting limits

Game Minimum bet Maximum bet
Roulette $1
Blackjack $25
Baccarat $25
War $25
Poker $1/$1

Can anyone bet the highest limits or do you need special VIP access?

All players are welcome to bet at high stakes in general. However, only members of the Prestige Plus rewards program can access the High Limits Lounge.

Casino de Montréal casino poker tournaments

If you want the PokerStars experience in real life, regular poker tournaments are held at the OK POKER Room at Casino de Montréal.

For cash games, the minimum bet is at blinds of $1/$1 – so technically you could win a pot from as little as a $1 wager, although almost all pots would be bigger than this.

There is also no rake on poker games at Casino de Montréal. You will instead pay a fixed session fee, then enjoy 100% of your winnings. This is great news for players who either want a long poker session or have a high ROI expectation.

Staff & Service – 3/5

This rating may seem low, as Casino de Montréal has some great facilities. But we marked it down because there is no hotel option nor are there free alcoholic beverages. With so many $25 table minimums, we expected a few more perks.

On the plus side, parking is free and the staff are friendly. There are multiple bars and restaurants of a high quality at Casino de Montréal.

Food & drinks

There are three restaurants at Casino de Montréal: Le Montréal, Pavillion 67, and L’Instant. We had a chance to eat at all three. Le Montréal was our favorite, with a great selection of fresh seafood, appealing views, and an open kitchen. You can expect to pay around $40 for a main. Pavillon has a buffet service, while L’Instant serves quick burgers, pizzas and pasta dishes if you don’t want a full sit-down meal.

Le Montréal:

  • Monday to Thursday: 17:00 – 22:00
  • Friday & Saturday: 17:00 – 23:00
  • Sunday: 10:00 – 14:00

Pavillion 67:

  • Thursday & Sunday: 17:00 – 22:00
  • Friday & Saturday: 16:30 – 23:00

L’Instant:

  • Thursday to Sunday: 11:00 – 00:00
  • Friday & Saturday: 11:00 – 03:30

Claude LaRamée runs the highly skilled security team at Casino de Montréal, with bouncers and CCTV in place.

Loyalty & Rewards – 3/5

The loyalty program is decent, but we have to state that the loyalty and rewards at Casino de Montréal leave room for improvement. For example, there are no free alcoholic drinks at blackjack tables with a $25 minimum bet. Poker tables don’t get significant comps either.

Dress code

No backpacks are allowed and the casino calls out clothes ‘depicting violence’, which seems very specific, but there are no other concrete rules. People tend to dress nicely as the venue is sophisticated, but it’s also so close to downtown that some people just pop in without wearing anything special.

Casino de Montréal Competitors

A couple of other popular casinos are Casino de Charlevoix and Casino du Lac-Leamy – both of which are owned by the same operator.

Casino de Montréal vs Casino de Charlevoix

Around four hours’ drive away, Casino de Charlevoix lacks some of the size and glamour of Casino de Montréal, but offers a string alternative. The multi-game station area allows you to play craps, sic bo and American Roulette from $1, and there’s also a full hotel available.

Casino de Charlevoix is best for a hotel stay

Those of you who want to stay at a hotel within the casino grounds can get that, plus a whole bunch of casino games, all in one place.

Casino de Montréal vs Casino du Lac-Leamy

West of the casino and close to the Mississippi Mills is Casino du Lac-Leamy. It follows the Société des casinos du Québec formula with games, bars restaurants and lots of entertainment. ‘The Zone’ blends digital tables with a live experience, and stakes start from just $0.20 per bet.

Should You Gamble at Casino de Montréal?

This is the biggest casino in Canada and well worth a visit. The $25 bets on games like blackjack will put off a lot of punters, but you can navigate this issue by focusing on slots and roulette – or poker, if you’re skilled at it. Either way, it’s worth checking out at least once just for the venue itself.
